BIOGRAPHY
Joseph Leyva Joseph Leyva, a southern California native, first knew he wanted to be a trumpet player after seeing Doc Severensen play live on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Joseph started playing the trumpet at the age of 13, performing professionally by the age of 16. He is also a composer/arranger, pianist and producer.
Joseph keeps a busy performance schedule as a
band leader and entertainment contractor in Nevada, California and Arizona. He also runs his own music publishing company, Bebopper Music.
In 2015, Joseph orchestrated the score for the new musical, Conviction, which featured the music of Billy Strayhorn.
Commissioned by the Black Theatre Troupe in Phoenix, this score has been exhibited at the Smithsonian museum in Washington D.C.
During the pandemic, Joseph founded the Virtual Trumpet Ensemble (www.virtualtrumpetensemble.org) comprised of professional trumpeters from around the globe. This organization gained notoriety throughout the music community with their online educational content and performance videos.
Joseph has over 20 years of teaching experience with band and orchestra students and holds a Masters Degree from the Manhattan School of Music.
